Giving Back to my Community

Giving Back to my Community

If you have been diagnosed with a chronic illness, there is one thing that will help you along your journey more than anything — your support network. Sometimes this is your family and friends. It could be a weekly meeting at a support group. But more often these days it is to be found online. No one can deny the power of social media, especially when it comes to closing physical barriers, such as distance.

My journey stated the same as most. And my community is here, with you. Writing about my journey through this blog taught me a lot. It helped me connect with others with chronic illnesses. Which not only helped me increase my knowledge of my own disease, but gave me a means to deal with my own demons and come to the point of acceptance. My online community helped me shape into the man I am today. And, deservedly, it is owed just as much of the credit for my accomplishments as I am.

Rather a long time ago I came up with a concept for a book. At the time I didn’t know it. But it was left to grow inside my head. Several years later I realized that all these thoughts floating around in there actually could mean something to someone. So I wrote them down. The more I wrote, the more came out. And before I knew it I had the outline for what looked like a book.

I never started with the intent of writing a book. Becoming an author never had crossed my mind. But after the idea took hold of me, and with the urge to give back to the community that’d given me so much already, here I am. An author, soon to be published.

As I write this, my manuscript is with my copy-editor. And in the not too distant future, it will be a finished piece of work.

The purpose of this book isn’t to make money. Although I would like to make some money to at least break even! This is me giving back to you. It is my hope that by sharing my knowledge and experiences of sitting on both sides of the desk, I can help you too.

So what’s this book about?

My book is title: Taking Charge — Making your healthcare appointments work for you.

I hope the title is somewhat self explanatory, but if you want to know more about it, you can read the full description here on my personal website.

Bonus material

I have created some simple resources, which are discussed in this book, to help you get more from your doctors appointments. These are my gift to you.

They are available now, and can be download directly from the Resources Page on my personal website — for FREE.

What next?

Of course I need to make sure I finish the book and get it published. It’s almost there.

After that I’ll be hoping that those that buy the book leave me appropriate feedback. As is the way with these things, the more it is liked, shared, and reviewed, the more chance it has of being found by the people that can benefit from it the most.

If you’d like to be the first to know when it is released, as well as get any additional resources or content relating to the book — you can do so for free by joining the club here.
